Construction of a data analysis plan facilitates replicability and is fundamental to good research conduct. Analyses will be undertaken using real data in SPSS and Atlas.ti. These types of research questions are illustrated with published papers and work in progress. A selection of types of research questions, appropriate study designs and data analysis techniques will be discussed in detail. The design of interdisciplinary research, good research conduct and research integrity are central to this course. Usually, adequate research in the field requires contributions from different disciplines. ![]() Research into Communication, Health and Life Sciences addresses complex issues that involve multiple stakeholders. This would not be my choice, I would prefer to use a stats program for what it can do best - statistical analysis: and a CDAS for what it can do best - supporting qualitative data analysis.YRM-30806 Research Methods and Data Analysis in Communication and Health Opleidingen Vakĭependent on educational background, a combination of two of the four courses: YRM-10306 Research Methods in the Social Sciences, HNH-24806 Epidemiology and Public Health, YRM-21806 Data Analysis for Health and Society, CPT-25306 Research Methods for Communication Sciences.įor students who did not take YRM-21806 a basic statistics course is required, such as MAT-14303 (Basic Statistics) or both MAT-15303 (Statistics 1) ànd MAT-14303 (Statistics 2). You can do very simple statistical analyses within MAXQDA. In addition to the basic functionality, each program has special functions - if you want to add quantitative data to a qual. So the best recommendation is to download a demo and try it out yourself. You can arrange the various windows you work with in any way you want. In ATLAS.ti you have much more freedom in the way you want to organize all aspects of your work. Some like the 4 windows that you have in MAXQDA - those users feel that it keeps them organized. As has been mentioned already, whether you like a program or not is often subjective. This offers great support to all interpretive analysis approaches, not only GT. When you want to move to a more abstract level, you can begin with coding - and this helps you to avoid the coding trap, an issue with all CQDAS. In ATLAS.ti you can begin with setting quotations, naming them and writing comments. One thing that was not mentioned here is that ATLAS.ti has an analysis level below coding (tagging) and this is the quotation level. Because this is what software can support. I think that we are stuck with the word "coding" in most CQAS because of the popularity of GT in all programs even though the better terms would be tag and tagging. See my paper:Īrticle CAQDAS and Grounded Theory Analysis (and also in the SAGE handbook Current developments in Grounded Theory). I agree that terminology used in software cannot be translated 1:1 to methodological terms. Also Strauss tried out first versions of ATLAS.ti. The professor leading the project Heiner Legewie actually translated Strauss' book into German, they visited him in San Francisco and Strauss was also in Berlin. ![]() Regarding the Grounded Theory connection David L Morgan - when ATLAS.ti was developed as part of a university research project, they had connections to A. If there are technical issues, your question needs to go to a developer. If you have specific questions regarding the use of the software, it is better to write to the helpdesk - they direct you to the person that can best answer your questions (I am one of those person as product specialist, so this is how I know). The telephone service however is only for general inquiries. ![]() ATLAS.ti is one of the few companies where you can actually call someone instead of having to write an email. That is a bit of an unfortunate experience, but an exception rather than the rule. ![]()
